St Hugh’s Professor Horst Eidenmueller awarded funding for COVID-19 legal project

Kristin van ZwietenHorst Eidenmüller and Oren Sussman have been awarded just over £33,000 from the COVID-19 Research Response Fund for their interdisciplinary project COVID-19, public policy and commercial law.

The project aims to track, report and critically evaluate commercial law reforms being made around the globe to contain the economic impact of COVID-19, and in particular policies designed to enable viable businesses to survive significant losses in revenue without being subjected to costly treatment by the prevailing (pre-pandemic) insolvency law.

The award will enable a team of research assistants to be hired to work with the project investigators to gather data on interventions in a large sample of jurisdictions with a view to tracking, comparing and evaluating policy responses along various dimensions. This work will be of immediate relevance to policymakers in the current crisis, but should also assist in the design of emergency relief in future large scale crises.

An advertisement for the appointment of research assistants to the project will appear on the Law Faculty website soon.
