“‘Dare unchaperoned to gaze’ A Woman’s View of Edwardian Oxford,” reviewed

A diary written by two students at St Hugh’s Hall, Oxford – Dorothy Hammonds and Margaret Mowll  – edited by Professor George Garnett and published in 2015, has been reviewed by Barbara Davies (History and English, 1990) in the Daily Mail.

She described the diary, from 1905, as “extraordinary”.

“The black cloth-bound diary offers an intriguing insight into an era when the women’s education movement was still gaining momentum.”
